Hello everyone!

I have released a free rock pack for everyone to use. The only thing you can't use this pack for is paid software. If you want to add them to your paid for software, please PM me.

http://www.moddb.com/members/zombie13/addons/zombies-rock-pack

It should be authorised soon.

Enjoy and any feedback is very welcomed!

Thanks!

QuoteHello!

I thought I'd start a little WIP thread for a rock pack I am making for my level, but will release separately in about 1.5 weeks (give or take)

This is tonights first rock model, the diffuse needs some love:

Hi

Nice looking rocks Zombie  8)

Is that a vertex blended material between the bottom and top of the rocks?

Anyway, they look great!

Actually, are they solid rock model objects? - I always had terrible problems trying to hide the UV seams on the rock models I made :( would be interested to see how you do it if they are  ;D

Cheers

That's a nice set of rocks (I sound like a woman in a jewelry store!).  Will you have separate rocks too?  IE ones not part of a wall?

Yes they are all modular.

I have 6 different rock models, with 2 different sizes, that are made to be rotated and flipped around, so you can get more mileage.

I also have a few tiling textures too for simple rock stuff.

Texture sizes are 1024x2048 to 2048^

They all come with diffuse, spec, normal and a heightmap for some extra detail. I'll upload some more images soon.

No vertex blending, but when I release them, you can do what you desire.

There are a few seams, but I hide them in places where it is not too noticable.

My pipeline is this:

- Scuplt a few rocks in Mudbox
- export meshes
- Use 3D Coat to create larger rock combinations from smaller rocks, with the voxel tool
- export
- take in to mesher and create a low poly from the high poly
- take both low and high poly meshes in to max
- unwrap UV's, bake normal etc
- paint diffuse on low poly in mudbox, using the projection tool
- save out diffuse
- take diffuse in to crazy bump and generate a normal map of your diffuse details
- use crazy bump to blend your baked out normal and crazy bump normals to get that extra detail
- To get the spec map base I take the finished normal map in to crazy bump and save the diffuse as a spec
- tweak spec in photoshop
- extra love to diffuse in photoshop
- take diffuse and make a heightmap from it

- optional: bake out AO from high poly, but I skip this part as it's not needed.

....and that is about it. A few steps, but the finished product is worth it.

You should write up a "How to make rocks" tutorial to go along with this.   8)

Yeah I should, but when it comes to that stuff I am really lazy/selfish when it comes to spare time.

I'll see what happens when I get back to Toronto.

Just a small update - I'm having a break and chilling this weekend.

I'll finish the rocks next weekend. Not too much to do, just polish diffuse maps.

I am almost done. just have to tweak some spec maps and make 3 small single rocks.

I'll upload it on Monday morning, my hotel internet is terrible.

2 screenshots of what you could do with the single smaller rock parts. They go well with the larger models
