I can't get Kingpin (or any other id Tech 2/Quake II engine games) to run at all

Hi,

It's not just with Kingpin; as it stands, I can't run *any* game made using id Tech 2, the exact same thing happens when I try launching Quake II, which I also own on GOG. No specific error messages, nothing, just your usual "The program has stopped working, Windows is looking for a solution" popup.
Here are my specs, just in case someone has a clue of how to help me solve this and I'll finally be able to play these games:

CPU: Pentium T4200 (2 CPUs) @2GHz
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series
RAM: 3GB
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit
