I reinstalled Windows 10-64 on a new HD because my old one was dying.  I reinstalled Blender 2.76 & 2.49 as I use both.  I installed Python 3.whatever & 2.7.whatever.  2.76 sees python, 2.49 doesn't.  I then installed python 2.6, Blender 2.49 still didn't see python.  I installed both 32 & 64 bit pythons & tried both 32 & 64 bit Blender 2.49.  I set the environment variables to point to the python installs, still no go.  When I point to 2.6 then Blender 2.76 won't run because it wasn't the version it came with.

Before I reinstalled Windows both blenders worked w/o issue & I had python installed.  I'm not sure what I could be missing.  I still use 2.49 for id game moddeling because it's got exporters for all the old games, but not I can't run the exporters.  :(

And now it magicly works.  Go figure. :/

Can you describe for what purposes you use the 2.49 version, please?

I did the animation in 2.6, but maybe 2.49 has some advantages?

Why 2.49 is still needed?

The Happy Friar

The  only two advantages 2.49 has for me are:
1) I know the UI
2) It has Quake, Q2, Q3A, D3 importers & exporters.

Interested it is the combination of these two (old and new) versions.

What part of the work for D3 can be made in each one?

Modelling in 2.76, animation in 2.49?

Thanks.

I do all my D3 work in 2.49.  In fact, all my id game work.  I use the latest one to load up new blends.  I'm one of those "throwbacks" who took ~6 months to learn 2.49 just before they released the new UI.

So far there isn't anything I can't do in 2.49 & the lack of id game support (from Quake to D3) isn't convincing me to move forward.  I'm sure 2.7 has some features that would help animating though.
