and i suppose this decision of yours has nothing to do with you having been campaigning against idtech4 like crazy since forever, and it's not merely a cheap excuse for you not to finish Phaeton :D (which i was seriously looking forward to btw).
but let's concern legal issues for a moment: Brendon could release QC, so i don't see how or why this project would be intercepted by Beth. do you? Beth killed Wolfenstein, which was all due to the brand name rather than idtech4 legacy code inside, and that's all they ever did afaik.

Last year we got Quadrilateral Cowboy, and now it seems someone's developing a first-person FTL-kinda game in the Doom 3 engine.

I like that too.  That's why I have GOG.  :)  Plus I can play Prison Architect while my kids play Red Faction at the same time.  :D

gog definitely wins the compatibility + overall quality competition. in terms of quantity + support + seamless updates however, steam is the king of the hill.
almost traded mad max for prison architect a couple of months ago (traded for evil within instead >:D). introversion has been one of the rising stars at the advent of the whole indie scene, so it must be interesting at least.
damn red faction, i have yet to finish that too. recommend the pure faction community patch.

drm is something i've just grown to accept. having my games in one place, stored in cloud easily overweights drm for me anyway.

it's not the theme i'm most interested in. more like platforming and different movement-related mechanics with constant environmental hazard, threat and traps and a gunplay closest to (modern) Quake. think of portal without the portal gun but with something else i haven't yet thought of. ::)

grimm is the best doom 3 mod (since tdm went standalone) and it's open. i'm looking forward to make a mod in the vein of that game one day.

i asked earlier if BC's pack could be loaded to iod3 or dhem3 or any other port. i tried it but failed, which is odd. that means i would have to recompile the code with that minimal pack somehow included?
