Check it out, sure FBX isn't used for idTech but it's cool none the less.

Incase some people don't know FBX is pretty much THE format we use in the industry.

That's pretty nice to see.  I'm not an artist but it's great to see money put into some open tools for the public to use.

Only kicker is that it proves that even with open source code the $$ directs the development.  I don't mind (people need to eat after all) that but open source supporters (in general) knock pay software (Windows, Photoshop, Maya, etc) because they say $$ directs it's development.

People are strange: in this case it's considered a good thing that Epic gave money to support Blender development, but there's a lot of indie developers who are labeled sellouts because they accepted money from a publisher.

EDIT: Personally, I'd rather see the $$ be put to making very good documentation of the software so people can learn how to use it easier.  I have up on Blender 2.5x & newer because of a lack of good documentation on how to relearn it's UI & functions so I'm still using 2.49b for hobby and pay jobs.  Just like with my pay software I don't like to have to relearn it every couple years.

Epic supplying cash to improve FBX support is only a good thing though.  FBX is the standard and helping streamline the use of that standard with an alternative to Autodesk tools is great.  In a nutshell it only lowers the financial barrier to entry for indie devs to be able to create content for engines such as UE4.  That's good for Epic and good for developers.
