Precompiled Windows-only gamelib means it's off limits to anyone not running the 2004 Windows version :s

Who likes D3 and doesn't have the original binary installed?  :)  (i've got the originals for all the id games).

Well, I do. I don't even run Windows. Yes, I know I'm in the minority.

Picking apart the mod, these guys seemed to have gone out of their way to package it in the most retarded, obnoxious possible way. My goodness. They have dumped *all* of their files in the root directory, and essentially trick the filesystem by using backslashes in their filenames.

Have they done this on purpose to discourage people taking the mod apart to learn from it?...

It's bullshit like this that keeps this community in the sorry state it's in.

Looking at playthrough videos on Youtube, the actual game seems competently made, with some nice production values at least. But the focus here was clearly to tell a story, and not to do actually anything interesting with Doom 3.

Didn't think of Linux, but, as someone who's done game binaries for id games (Q2 & D3, Q1/Q3 didn't need them), if you don't have a linux system handy or someone to help code/compiling, it's not worth the trouble.  Linux players tend to be more unforgiving about issues then PC players when they crop up.
Also, I was able to extract everything, just like stock Doom 3 pk4 w/o issues.  Here's the pink folder.

Oh, I get it now. Because of their use of backslashes (which have the same use in Windows as forward slashes) my filesystem interprets them as filenames, e.g.
"textures\decals\symbol_letters_32d_blood.tga" is the filename, sitting in the root directory.

intro is long.  :)  And I found out I can die via falling on the monorail tracks.  :D
Is it just me or can nobody else run/jump in intro?

My experience has been the opposite - Linux players (who play on PCs, FFS, why can't people and game companies just write "Windows" instead of "PC" when they mean it) tend to be more understanding and more helpful with debugging problems.

Anyway, the best way for a Doom3 mod to support non-Windows platforms (but also for better Windows  support) is to release the source code under GPL and to port it to dhewm3 (or ask me to do it)  ;)

Because Apple & Mac users made the association of "PC" = "Windows" in the 80's.  Silly Apple fanboys.  :p
