Hello guys i'm getting a "your connection is not private - NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID" error when trying to read the idtech4 modwiki, i'm using Vivaldi (is based on chrome), i'm the only one with this error?

The Happy Friar

http://www.modwiki.net/ ?
Doesn't load up for me.  Server not found.

argoon

That link is not correct, i think, the one i have is https://modwiki.xnet.fi .

caedes

Works for me, with both Firefox 52 and Chromium 56.

However, I could imagine that the problem is that the SSL certificate used for modwiki's https is from StartCom, and I think several browsers wanted to stop accepting certificates from StartCom sooner or later because they're not trustworthy.

The Happy Friar

That site loads good for me.

So should i be worried? The warning also says someone could be trying to steal my private info.

That site is very import for me and anyone using idtech 4 would be a disaster if i couldn't trust it.

Btw i get the same error using chrome on my computer?!  Version 57

What browser are you using?

I told Vivaldi to ignore the problem and now it loads fine but i'm worried about it now.

caedes

I don't think there is a reason to be worried.

While I totally understand that the browser vendors don't want to trust StartCom anymore, I don't think modwiki or you are in danger because of this. It's not like you're entering credit card data there..

I hope we can switch to another SSL provider, like Let's Encrypt, but this is up to Kordex who runs the server.

argoon

Thanks for the reassurance caedes and thanks for helping maintaining modwiki.  :)

The Happy Friar

The whole "every server should now be https for safety!" the browser makes are pushing doesn't make anything less secure.  Now they're just telling you to panic vs before they didn't.  :)

caedes

Kordex updated the modwiki SSL certificate to one issued by let's encrypt - does this fix your problems, argoon?

argoon

It seems it does i don't get the warning anymore, thanks for helping and give my thanks to Kordex has well if he doesn't browse this forum.
