I'm not a coder, but how difficult would it be to take an existing mod for example and make it standalone?
If that's possible, what can and can't you use from the game?

I don't know how hard it would be, but Blendo released a minimal pack to get the process started. this might help. Seems to be working for them:

they also put up an BFG version which may be preferable for graphics and other modern comforts.

welcome.

Well Donsinly, this is a game that is being made in an older video game engine, but with some interesting innovations in game-play. You see, the developer is a long time fan of a certain genre of shooters, and has until recently shied away from making a game that directly engages with some of the traditional first person shooter mechanics. But now, he has decided to approach these mechanics in a novel and lighthearted way while accepting some of the staples of the form.
With a combination of capable art skills and crafty c++, this developer is single-handedly creating a kind of reinterpretation of the traditional shooter that is less obsessed with overhyped ultraviolence and more intrigued with the nuances of movement and gunplay mechanics.
It is sure to be a rip-roaring good time.

Haunting of Deck 12 / Re: Practical map size limit?

I may be wrong, but I believe maps can have multiple start points, I just dont know how you would access them. iirc this cutscene was accessed via a secondary start location

Arcane Dimensions is different then this.  It used assets from Quake releases for a Quake mod. ...
Hmm. I don't want to be a stickler, but Arcane Dimensions definitely does this. Observe this screenshot from Arcane Dimensions that showcases the Skull Wizard.

Taking Arcane Dimensions as an example, it seems that people have gotten away with something very similar in the past, but I think that maybe relying on people to verify that they have purchased copies of each game would be the best way to go. I realize this is not a trivial task, but something like a batch file seems like it would work. I would imagine many script assets, materials, etc. would have been modified in the course of this development, so I don't know how easy it would be to track and apply those changes, but the pk4 loading sequence might help with that.

Since these are newer games, its possible the publisher will be more scrutinizing. I think you would just get a cease and desist type letter if you ran afoul of them, but if you are redistributing raven, human head and id assets, they might have grounds to seek damages, so thats why I'd avoid that. Although, again, judging by Arcane Dimensions, I am not sure how likely this is to happen.

I would not rotate entities with the rotation tools, instead use the directional tool in the entity inspector.

Just want to make sure your "custom shortcut" includes these. (game path is dependent on your install location of course)

"C:\Doom3\Doom3.exe" +set r_fullscreen 0 +editor +set com_allowConsole 1

The editor does not work with antialiasing turned on, so you may need to add:
+set r_multiSamples 0

also putting this in there someplace might help:
+vid_restart

id Tech 4 Discussion / Re: Why so few uses of Id Tech 4?

is the OP like a time capsule/repost? People can still use Doom 3. I mean Quadrilateral Cowboy was a critically acclaimed game made with Doom 3 and Blender. There is a path, tho few use it.

Speaking personally, yes a lack of .md5 exporters for Maya is THE MAIN REASON i don't do more modding. It is not for lack of looking. They're just arent good current ones out there. I would pay toward making an exporter that worked with Maya LT.

id Tech 4 Discussion / Global Gam Jam ?
January 20, 2017, 12:19:28 PM
There is a global game jam, where participants will idly waste valuable energy resources to produce briefly interesting vaporware.

Is anybody here planning to participate and make anything with id tech 4? I was looking up Blendo's past jam submission that used it and I discovered this helpful link from the long long ago. (it suggests d3w as a resource)

http://blendogames.com/news/?p=844

But anyway, I was thinking of making something with Unity, but I would also love to make something really ridiculous in tech 4. Anyway, if any of you are participating in any capacity in a Jam this weekend, it would be cool if you would share about it here. (whether its d3 related or not)

Socialism, for americans, does not have the same meaning, since we have only implemented the mostly good parts of socialism (welfare programs, work programs, etc), while we had to read in history and watch on the news, as the effects of expanded and inneffective governments led to the suffering and death of the people that empowered the revolution to begin with. I think, for some americans socialism is an ideal worthy of pursuing,  while others fear the involvement of the government into more areas of their life.
