Welcome! / Growing the community
August 08, 2015, 02:43:59 AM
Let's discuss ways to reach a wider audience with our community. I know there are many Idtech modders currently 'floating' with no real home to speak of, let's plaster links to this place everywhere you go, advertising it as an advanced/elite modding forum. Make it a bit special so we can raise the quality of posting here and perhaps get some more professionals active.

I'm pretty sick of the yes/no/i'm smarter/quicker/better than you discussions here and I'd love to see in depth tech talk about modding, without all the mud throwing.
For that we need much more posters and a more active community. I'd love to hear ideas and see you guys pull your weight in trying to grow the community.

Do not start any discussions about the current quality of posting, this thread is not to solve discussions or disputes, it's to find ways to grow the community.

If you haven't seen the movie Cube, made in 1997, then you haven't truly watched television the way you should. It's a fantastic movie, that still completely holds up to current day standards in terms of story telling and effects. I've just rewatched all three cube movies and have decided to start on a cube mod for Doom3.

Movie still:

The total conversion will feature puzzle solving, avoiding deadly traps, and dealing with the other residents of the cube, trying to find their way out. I won't be putting this on moddb as of yet, as I don't want to get a take down notice as soon as it hits the air. For now I'm just creating it for curiosity sake. :)

I've been dying to create a (quite simple) TC for Doom 3 for some time now. Spanning the middle 8 maps of Doom 3, prior to hell.

The Doctor receives a strange signal eminating from Mars, exactly at 04:23, 16 November, 2045.
He enters the coordinates and find himself trapped inside a human Mars Base.
Will the doctor be able to escape with his life, and save the remaining humans on the base?

If I build it, think they'll nuke my mod?

YES I KNOW YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS.
DOWNLOAD THE UPDATED FILE WITH TEXTURE SETS AND EXAMPLE PROJECTS INCLUDING LOTS OF EXTRA'S:

REMARKS:
- I will take bug fix requests and I will take feature requests. Bug should be fixed quickly, but features might take a while (several weeks).
- My bug& feature list was on the old forum, I can't find it any longer so I don't know exactly how far a long I was. If someone can find the old thread, I might pick up on the feature list again.

Just remember this is a BETA but it has a lot more features than the old D3 Map Builder. Remember to save often, but otherwise it's pretty stable. You can now load/save your projects, you can now set manual lighting. Let me know if there are errors. You can now even place random monsters. Almost getting to the point where it's more than just a mapbuilder, but also a random mission generator.

The map builder in action in this example video showing the entire process from start to finish:

Now that Grimm is under development again, maybe I can wet your appetites for downloading the current build, which gives you over 3 hours of gameplay and fun for free. :)

Grimm is a Hack & Slash platform game set in a region between Heaven and Hell called Purgatory.
The game offers unique gameplay elements such as walking across walls, many different weapon combinations for intensive melee combat and lots of different environments.

Check out the complete walkthrough!

Part 1

Download link: http://www.moddb.com/mods/grimm-quest-for-the-gatherers-key/downloads

So, you're into playing a cool nifty game for a few hours? Why not download Grimm in check it out! The installation & download is very easy.

The source is also available and offers modders lots of additions in scripting and gameplay, like the burning system:

Other features include:
- Direct exposure to the engine through scripting, making many SDK solutions unnecessary.
- Added many options for breakables, they now have FX when they break, shards that stay in the world for an X amount of time, all configurable from the def files.
- Wood and Creatures can now burn, and fire propagates through the map
- A painting system, where you can paint decals into the maps
- An elaborate gibbing system
- A system where you can assign alternative fire using different projectiles for weaponry
- A wall walking system (easily implementable in maps), where players can dash across walls at designated points in the map.
- An elaborate set of func_movers, traps and other easy configurable entities to make elaborate traps or moving parts without having to resort to scripting in map scripts. A LOT of automation has been done here so mappers can map their stuff quickly instead of having to spend hours in map script trying to program their moveables, traps and other things.
- Lots and lots of additions that make modding Doom3 a lot easier than before.

What happened?

I have been in contact with BNA! up until around 4 months ago. He mailed me, swearing the board would be up and running 'soon' but I haven't heard since. Just found this board, but not many posters yet I see.

Anyway, I'll be checking in now and then. In the meantime, anyone have some more info on D3World and what happened, besides there was a DOS attack?
