Hi everyone!
« on: October 02, 2014, 03:10:56 PM »
Hey everybody! I just played and beat Doom 3 about a week ago and started wanting more zombies, so I started mapping. Used to map some on the Half Life engine. Gonna have to find my way around these forums now though cause I still can't figure out how to complete and exit the levels, or link it to another. Anyone wanna point a girl in the right direction? Haven't mapped in about 10 years so its like i'm completely new at it now except for the very basics

Thanks. :P I will enjoy being here and my journey with this. I've been watching a lot of mod videos, and even tried a few of them, and none of them were really to my liking. Like...I made it through the game, and a couple mods, but I hate spiders!!! They keep jumping out at me and so I gotta make my own game, no replays of the original. One thing I might try is taking the original game and replacing all the monsters with zombies, and making a lot more of them. There never really was a massive horde in the game. And another thing I'd like to figure out is how to make all headshots a one hit kill with the pistol, but that is gonna be later cause I'm assuming that will get very complex. I tried out the black ops zombies mod, and it just got too crazy, and totally away from where I expected it to go. I did like the run and gun feel though. When I used to make my own half life maps, I always but crap loads of monsters and plenty of ammo in the map, that or i'd just go " ~  /impulse 101" whenever i get low on bullets. I love pc gaming...way better than a console, but cheats are too tempting, kinda ruin the game, and I try to stay away from anything besides weapon cheats. God mode should only work in terminator games.

Yea, I was upset to find that most of the tutorials were on a site that was closed. Already kinda used to DoomEdit as far as functionality and layout goes. I'll probably stick with it for a while. I saw another software on youtube that is like a super easy map builder that doesn't require the use of individual brushes, or much skill, was called Doom 3 Map Generator or something like that, but the download link was dead. I just want to make a mod thats zombie horde filled, have to run and gun the whole time, maybe have to run back to the previous room sometimes and lock the door, find another way out... would be fun.

Welcome!

Yes, that is exactly what I'm looking for! Thank you! Muah! I figured it was something I had to do all in the editor that I couldn't figure out.

I'll probably have lotsa questions, but I'm gonna work on some stuff. I will probably cum here to post my mod map by map, as I finish maps cause I may always make maps for this game until I die because I really like the look of the game, and the zombies in this game are pretty good for an older game, and if done right this could make for one scary FPS without the rest of the monsters.
I found some of the monsters to be more annoying than scary. Like the floaty brain squid looking things...look to be a duke nukem ripoff, but idk, never played doom past the first level until now.

Kinda sad. I thought I'd try to just make a whole planet...Yeah, that didn't work. will compile, wont run.

Also thinking... what if you accidentally shot a control panel that was important... maybe multiple ways to go through the level, but say... monster breaks through a wall from an otherwise inaccessible room if control panel for door is damaged, revealing another way out. i have tons of ideas.

Doom 3 Map Generator is attached to this post.

The reason there wasn't massive hordes of monsters in the game was because it would slow the game down to a crawl.  Even today in stock D3 a lot of monsters can slow the game to a crawl.

If you're interested in one headshot zombies you'll want to look at the zombie .def files.  I forget the command but you can set the damage scale for certain defined parts of the monster.  IE head, arm, body, etc.  Set the other parts to 0 and the head to 1000, or similar.  I did that for my mod a while back.

Also check out iddevnet.  Very handy official reference site.

Enjoy moddding!

Yea, i couldn't make a generated level actually play, gonna have to go back to that tutorial. Been working hard on my first doom 3 map this morning, using doomedit. So far I have 3 rooms and 2 hallways! :) getting the hang of it, and also getting faster, I have my method down. Instead of going room by room I start with the first room, then just make blocks from there to layout an entire floor, and then hollow them out and texture as I move the cam through the map. I actually really like this DOOMEdit compared to Worldcraft.
