Gamebanana is a large gaming modding community that supports a lot of games in many genres, including doom.

While half life and counter strike get the most attention, the doom 3 modding has recently started to revive in it with members like dafama7k and CED, and I want to bring more attention to it there. The doom 3 section has different sub categories for sounds, skins, models, full mods, and also a forum with threads like these. They even featured a couple of doom 3 submissions in the main page some time ago.

It could benefit from this community, in fact, the happy friar, if you joinned, I could speak with the admins so you could be in charge of that section yourself seeing your role here, I am a moderator there. You can customize your profile as you´d like (if you know how to use html)

The site has existed for almost 14 years, and it keeps growing, it would be awesome if doom 3 modding there became as popular as hl, tf2, or cs modding.

Gamebanana also hosts a number of texture sets with diffuse, normal and specular maps. With a few tweaks these textures can be used very well in Doom 3.
For example the textures by Apocalyptic Studio: http://gamebanana.com/studios/submissions/textures/21599

Bikerdude is gonna take a look at getting some of these into The Dark Mod.
Thanks!

Now we wait for another Open Source zealot to complain about adding even more "Non Commercial" clause CC assets to the project :P

The Happy Friar

Assets are separate from the engine so I'm not seeing why anyone would complain.

They complain because:

1) They want to include TDM in a Linux distro that has fee based support or uses advertisement to support itself
and they think that the NC clause in the assets makes doing this a legal gray area.

2) They want to make small modifications to TDM and sell it as their own product...

Obviously we don't care about point 2. If they want to commercialize TDM, they can create their own replacement art assets.

Never thought of that one.   Guess it depends on what license is used for the images & who's willing to complain.  I understand how the person on the final end can be responsible for someone else's blunder (USPS got sued & low because they used a getty image of the Statue of Liberty, but taken of the one in Vegas, not the one in NYC Harbor.  The Getty image said it was the real statue & if the rights were bought it was OK to use but USPS was the one sued because they made a postage stamp based on the wrong info on Getty).
