#idTech7
So I guess there should be a new section on the forum ;)
Neat! I doubt that I'll play the game released on it due to weak hardware (had to play Doom on lowest settings), but that definitely sounds great.
I only hope that they'll make at least Tech 5 GPL, but I guess that ZeniMax is still blocking them on this front.

They did, partially. Doom 3 BFG engine is idTech 4 and idTech 5 fused together. Virtual Textures 2 and some other not too important pieces didn't make it into GPL release, but the main stuff is available under GPL. Too bad not whole a lot of people care to push it forward.
Full GPL release of the engine would still be great though. They don't really have anything to lose making the code public, since most AAA companies use their own tech and indies opt for engines that offer ease of use, good documentation and not overly restrictive licensing (see UE4 and Unity).
Pushing BFG forward is a neat idea, we lack coders to do so though. I'll definitely use BFG/SE2 branch for a small project and I'm also really into TDM engine. Somehow, I'm more comfortable working with Tech4 based engines than even UE4. I just love the freedom it gives in all aspects of editing.
Didnt realize doom (2) eternal was idtech 7. I thiught they would still be using 6. Maybe they are doing what epic does and just making new engine names for new releases.
Hoping d2 runs on my d1 hardware. didnt want to upgrade! :)

Epic no longer does it with UE4 ;)

I am certain it will be scalable. If you look at the teaser, there isn't anything over the top. Maybe just draw distances. I bet they gutted old code, tightened it up and maybe made it moddable ? Maybe added VR-optimized render path?
In ~1.5 month we shall see :)

I felt the same about the teaser. Reminds me of the sequels from the 90's early 00's: near same engine, new levels, some new weapons & baddies. That's part why I was excited: I figured they didn't bother remaking the engine again, they just upgraded as they went along (like with D3 tech) and added new stuff for a new game.
Was excited to read it will have some Earth locations. :D
One more week ....
Was the new doom being released this year?

Who knows, we'll see what they say at Quakecon :)
While I haven't finished the latest Doom yet (I'm not playing games as much as I used to before), I'll definitely have to check it out.
It'd be great if modding capabilities of Doom: Eternal engine were higher than just SnapMap.
I thought QCon was this weekend. Then I saw it was next weekend. I'll be in Canada, eh? Guess I'll have to check out new Doom stuff while up north. :)
Although not based on id Tech, RAGE 2 will be shown at Quakecon too. It kinda looks like improved id Tech, but it's not.
All of a sudden I'm very interested in Quakecon! Can't wait for the presentation.
There ya go:

id Tech 7, a ton more geometry on screen at 60 fps. Can't wait!!!
RAGE 2 was also amazing:

Supposedly Doom Eternal will be moddable and Rage 2 might be moddable later after initial launch.
We'll see if it'd really be, but let's hope that Zenimax won't do anything against it.

Mods or no mods, I am getting Doom Eternal and Rage 2 ???
Supposedly will only run on Vulkan on PC and no mods/SnapMap initially for neither of the game due to lack of traction with SnapMap in Doom 2016 (not whole a lot of people used it). At this era I think I am quite fine with having no mods, considering even Quake 1 gets only a small amount of decent maps and mods (I don't even remember any new worthy mods from the past few years, except Arcane Dimensions). As long as ID keeps single player content coming, I think it will be all good :)
I watched the IGN 7 minutes of Doom Eternal gameplay. Is it just me or did they make it more like Doom vs the previous one? Hot damn, I'm happy just watching it. :) The imps look like they have more spikes on their back, the dudes with the red eyes reminds me of the shotgunners, pinkies look more pinky-ish. I like the new finishing kills I've seen in the video.
Overall, I am excited. It seems they kept what was right with the previous one & added more stuff to this one. Hopefully the fixed the MP to be more Doom like too. :)

Yep, they even said they brought back classics from Doom :)
MP is now done internally at ID, so maybe something good will come out of it.
Just an FYI, if I seem behind on Doom news it's because I am trying to avoid to much info from it. Besides time, it's still fun to go "whoah, didn't know that!" when I install it! :D
From what they've shown, the money spent on buying it would still be well worth it!
There's still no exact release date for Doom Eternal, right?

Nope, but I bet we'll hear something by QuakeCon 2019
